The Heater Treater® allows plumbing contractors the ability to offer affordable, yet highly effective protection against scaling on every installation. The Heater Treater provides scale protection for all tankless water heaters, tank water heaters, boilers and solar hot water systems. Water treatment helps maintain efficiency and extends the life of water heaters and boilers, but often times is not utilized due to the high cost to the customer. The Heater Treater is installed on the feed water line just prior to the tankless water heater. As the water passes through the filter cartridge, the treatment media in the interior of the filter slowly dissolves into the water supply providing scale protection to the heater. The units are intended to be used with single and multi heater installs up to 150 GPM and can be installed inside or outside. The Heater Treater will also help your business earn residual income through maintenance agreements and filter replacements.

An FDA and World Health Approved water treatment media is loaded inside the filter cartridge. As the water passes through the filter this media slowly dissolves into the water supply where it provides two very important, but very different types of scale protection. First this media surrounds or encapsulates the calcium and magnesium ions which reduces the opportunity for these ions to crystallize (create scale) when heated. Secondly the treatment media lays down a microscopic thin protective coating that does not allow any scale that may form from adhering to the interior of the tankless water heater. These two processes together provide effective scale protection for tankless water heaters, boilers and solar heating systems in hard water areas.
How Often Do the Filters Require Replacing?
- A residential installation on a city or municipal water supply the filter should be replaced yearly.
- A commercial installation on a city or municipal water supply the filter should be replaced every 6 months.
- There are exceptions due to water quality, water usage etc.
What Purpose Does the Gauge Perform?
Reduction of the water pressure on the exit side of the unit is an indication of the filter cartridge has collected enough sediment, dirt, rust etc. to lower the pressure and reduce flow to the tankless water heater. This reduced flow and water pressure, if not corrected will eventually affect the operation of the heater.This is monitored and recorded with the initial installation. When the gauge shows a 10 psi reduction of pressure, it is time to replace the filter due to sediment and dirt collection only.Another very important purpose of the pressure gauge is to indicate if high water pressure is present. A reading over 80 psi indicates that the pressure regulator has failed and needs to be replaced or that a pressure regulator should be installed to protect against a major plumbing failure due to high water pressure.
Do I Replace Yearly or When the Gauge Indicates It's Time for A Change?
It is suggested to replace the filter using the intervals of 9-12 months on residential installations and every 6-9 months on commercial installations. These intervals will vary due to water usage. When the filter collects enough sediment, dirt, rust etc... the operation of the heater is potentially affected due to reduced flow or low water pressure. The filter captures the sedimentation in the water providing additional protection to the internal parts and operation of the heater. Excessive sedimentation can happen from various sources: old water distribution lines in a town or city, private wells, old plumbing, amount of water usage, distribution line repairs etc. A simple way to determine when to replace the filter is to replace using the suggested intervals - or when the gauge indicates a filter change is required.
How Do I Know Which Unit to Choose for My Application?
The units are rated just like tankless water heaters in gallons per minute of water flow. Using the manufacturer’s specifications for your specific heater use the maximum GPM of hot water produced by this heater to match up to the Heater Treater.

Any Restrictions on Where the Units Can be Installed?
The units can be installed inside or outside. Use common sense when installing - protect from freezing and if possible keep out of direct sunlight.
